The Food Safety Law Modified : Punishment for media of spreading false information

This morning, the 12th meeting of the Twelfth Standing Committee Of The National People’s Congress was held, the Food Safety Law(modified draft) was submitted once again to The National People's Congress for deliberation. In the first trial, there was an increase on the penalties of the illegality of Food Safety, in this second trial, there was a further modification for more detailed questions, the regulation that the Genetically Modified food should be labelled according the standards was made. In addition, it was mentioned that the media who fabricate and/or spread the false food safety information would be punished.
Nowadays, purchasing food online is becoming prevalent. The purchasing trend has been developed from baby formula to raw/fresh food which include hairy crabs, meat and fruits etc. In fact, food preservation and transportation are the crucial parts of food safety management.
Compared with the first review, the second review suggested that food preservation and transportation etc. should be included in adjustment scope. There was a new provision was added ,which non-food producers/operators who involve in food preservation, transportation and loading need make sure all the package tool and equipment are safe and harmless, keep cleanses , prevent the food contamination, ensure all the food safety standards such as temperature are met and should not transport the food with hazardous and toxic products.
For the controversial Genetic Modified food, the second review mentioned that the<< Agricultural genetically modified food safety management practice>> already made the provision regarding to the labeling of Genetically Modified Food. Some countries also include the provision that declaration of Genetically Modified Food must be presented on the label in their laws. To protect the right of consumers to be informed, this review added a new provision that Genetically Modified Food should be labelled according the regulation in their production and management, meanwhile, the corresponding legal responsibility was added.
First review regulated that the food safety information are require to report to State Food and Drug Administration for verification before being published, the second review deleted this provision. However, in the meanwhile, the second review added the investigation of media responsibility and stipulated that the media who fabricates and spreads false information of food safety information would be penalized by relevant authorities, the supervisor and person directly responsible would be given punishment.
